About Devon Anthony Blackwood
Devon A. Blackwood is the author of the eagerly anticipated new Christian guide Planted By Water (Cold Tree Press). He has counseled in the Psychiatry department at Johns Hopkins Hospital and is President & CEO of B.W. Affiliates, LLC, a mental health and consulting firm. Mr. Blackwood earned a psychology degree from the University of Baltimore and is currently writing his third book The 9 Minute Marriage. Both Planted By Water (2006) and first book – Beyond The Lingo: Working Through Recovery Concepts (A Guide For Addicted Persons & Their Families) published in 2004 by Cold Tree Press – are available through major bookstores and online book retailers including www.amazon.com. Devon has also advocated for individuals with disparities in healthcare coverage, mental health, substance abuse problems and HIV/AIDS disease by meeting with Senators in Congress and on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. He has been instrumental in shaping public policy related to psychological health issues.
Devon has licensure through the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapist, is a certified gatekeeper instructor in suicide prevention and training through the QPR institute and has specialized training in truama and cognitive behavior therapy.
Devon has attended functions with Dick Gregory, Coretta Scott King, Senator Paul Sarbanes, Governor Martin O'Malley, John Lewis, Elijah Cummings, Dr. Benjamin Carson, Bernice King, Roland Martin and others in attendance. He is an administrator, education director, and teacher at Shiloh Church of God and has been featured on numerous radio, television, political and civic forums including:

Mr. Blackwood also mentors youth through an organization called The Baltimore Rising, Inc. formerly named The Mayors Office of Children, Youth, and Families in Baltimore, Maryland. He is a former Board of Director of Sonship Recovery Ministries, former secretary of Youth Workers for Christ (YWFC) – , former Vice-President of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and a graduate of the University of Baltimore’s Psychology Program. Mr. Blackwood was included in Who’s Who Among Students In American Universities & Colleges, 1996 edition and Outstanding Young Men of America, 1996 edition. He received The Army Achievement Medal for Meritorious & Outstanding Service in 1985, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 1998 Award for Community Service, City of Baltimore Citizen Citation in 1997 by former Mayor Kurt Schmoke, and the Life Time Missions Award in 2004.
